Streetcars were the public transportation in Edmonton from 1908 to 1951. When the High Level bridge was built, trolley tracks were placed on either side of the steam train tracks that ran down the centre of the upper deck. Trolley customers thrilled to the ride, a full 46 metres above the North Saskatchewan River. Almost 45 years after the last trolley rail was removed, the electric train made its return to Old Strathcona in 1996. Today the trolley takes passengers from Old Strathcona to Jasper Avenue and back, once again crossing the river on the top deck of the bridge.

The Old Strathcona train stop is behind the TransAlta Arts Barns at 103 Street north of 84 Avenue.
