Adventure in Fashion's Spring Self-Indulgence
Tuesday April 29 , 2014
Spring is a time for renewal, and if you're anything like me, that means one thing: Shopping! From pastel accessories and new makeup, to sinful cupcakes and a trip to the movies, here are my picks for a little self-indulgence this season...Don't worry, you're totally worth it.
1. Pastel accessories.
Everyone needs a good tote bag in their life, but when that bag happens to be mint coloured, you need to grab that bad boy up and never look back. I've fallen in love with the range at Chapters (10504 Whyte Ave.) lately, partly for their clean, Michael Kors-inspired silhouettes, but mainly because of their amazing colour range. And for under $40, this tote is a luxury you can't afford to pass up.
2. Statement baubles.
Anytime is a good time for jewelry, and spring is certainly no exception. I fell in love with this colourful gem the moment I saw it (also at Chapters), but if subtlety is more you style, check out Oak + Fort (10416 Whyte Ave.) or Noul (8213 104 St.) for some great options.
3. Tinted SPF.
Things are slowly heating up, which means upping your SPF usage (although really, you should be wearing it year-round!). So when said SPF also happens to be a tinted moisturizer that promises to give you dewy skin — like this one from Aveda (10636 Whyte Ave.) — it's a no-brainer!
4. Fun reads.
Any other Nasty Gal fans in the house? Well if so, I'm sure you're as eager as I am to get your hands on Sophia Amoruso's first book, #GIRLBOSS (available at Chapters on May 6!). Beyond. Excited.
5. Cupcakes (times 20).
Cupcakes are delightful all year round, but when the sun is shining and your city is a bloom, I swear they taste all the more sweet. So in between trips to your favourite shops along Whyte, I say stop in to Fuss Cupcakes (10441 Whyte Ave.) for a sweet treat (like my personal favourite, the Chocolate Cheesecake!)... What more reason do you need?
Trying a vibrant pop of colour can transform your look and help you effortlessly transition into a new season, which is why I like to pick up a new shade (or two!) to switch things up come spring. Aveda has some great, natural-looking options that actually nourish the lips (huzzah!) for $16 a pop... Not too shabby.
7. Date night.
When you're all tuckered from a day of spring shopping, I say grab a loved one and treat yourselves to a movie night at the Princess Theatre (10337 Whyte Ave.)! It's adorable, their movie selections are great and, well, there's popcorn... 'nuff said."
