Find Your Festival in Old Strathcona!

Summer is always busy in Old Strathcona, but this year we've got a jam-packed start to the summer! Over the July 5th weekend, come on down to check out Boardwalk Sand on Whyte, Found Festival, the Whyte Avenue Art Walk, the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival, and Rachel Notley's Annual Pancake Breakfast

Our 'hood is the place to be this weekend, but it's going to be a busy one. Make sure to plan ahead, consider taking transit, and come ready to celebrate summer! For more information on where everything is located, transit routes, bike lanes, and road closures, please visit The City will also have an info tent set up in the 104 Street Service Lane north of 82 Avenue from 10am-5pm on July 6 & 7. Boardwalk Sand on Whyte (June 28 - July 7) - Boardwalk Sand on Whyte is back in Old Strathcona this summer with More Than a Feeling. Seven sand carvings, created by professional sand carving artists, explore the emotions of Love, Joy, Pride, Hope, Fear, Stress and Vanity.

The Boardwalk Stage presents Live Music by local artists on June 29 & 30 and July 1, 6 & 7 and Storytelling by the Strathcona Library on July 2, 3 & 4 at 12:30 pm.

Sand Box lessons for day care and summer camp groups are offered on July 2 to 5 from 11 am to 2 pm. 

Found Festival (July 4-7) - Edmonton’s only found space arts festival returns to Old Strathcona July 4 - 7, 2019. Taking art out of galleries, concert halls, and theatres, and into the streets of Old Strathcona, the 8th annual Found Festival boasts surprising new works by artists from across Alberta.

Find the Found Grounds - your one stop shop for festival information, tickets, beer, and a FREE music series programmed by Edmonton’s own Sweaty Palms and Double Lunch Productions - neatly tucked behind Edmonton Fringe Theatre’s Backstage Theatre (10330 84 Avenue), across from the High Level Street Car stop.

Whyte Avenue Art Walk ( July 5-7) - Imagine a 4 km walk through the hearts and minds of artists. Cultural explorers are invited to see art making in action on the streets of Old Strathcona. Over 500 visual artists bring their art supplies and artworks out into the streets. Together they create an outdoor studio and gallery spanning several blocks. The Whyte Avenue Art Walk reveals Alberta’s hidden talent and provides an opportunity for patrons to curate their own art collection from many undiscovered masters.

When: July 5 - 7, 2019

Time: 10 am – 5 pm daily 

Where: The event is a grand promenade along Whyte Avenue (82 Avenue) from 101 Street to 108 Street. New this year, Artists tents will line 81st Avenue between 104 street and 105 street and several other street closures, too. It's a long tour, so bring your walking shoes!

Edmonton International Street Performers Festival (July 5-14) - Enjoy incredible acts from Canada and around the globe as the park is transformed into the ultimate playground. Professional street acts, jugglers, magicians, circus performers, comedians, dancers and hula hoopers from around the world are sure to entertain the young and the young at heart!

Rachel Notley's Annual Pancake Breakfast (July 6) - Join Rachel on Saturday, July 6 for her annual Art Walk Pancake Breakfast! New location this year by the Pint. Come take in the work of more than 450 artists and swing by for breakfast.
