#ShopLocalGiveBack - Ohana Donuterie
Thursday December 27 , 2018
Ohana Donuterie is celebrating a birthday! On December 20, 2017, they opened their doors in Old Strathcona and have been serving up delicious Hawaiian-style malasada donuts in their gorgeous shop ever since. They’ve come a long way since their first food truck, and we’re so happy to have their sunny shop in our ‘hood!
Ohana started in January 2016, with a kitchen, an idea, and Adam Biel and Kevin Higa. They wanted to bring the malasada donuts of Hawaii to Canada, spreading “Aloha” one fresh donut at a time. Over 2000 donut experiments later, the recipe was perfected, a food truck was purchased, and Ohana Donuterie was born!
Their donut shop in Old Strathcona is a warm, welcoming space, where the coffee is always on, and there’s always a spot to park your bike! It’s peppered with a great spirit of community, and it’s something that Ohana definitely values. They see the importance of giving back to the community they serve, and have some fantastic fundraising options that they just launched in November.
Previously, you’d see the donut truck out and about helping out and collecting donations at community events, but now they’ve taken things a few steps further with some in-store options. They’re working with a project at the moment where an organization can have an in-store account for ten days, and patrons can purchase anything on the menu by using a code for the account. When you use the code, twenty cents of every dollar that is purchased goes back to the fundraising initiative! If you’re looking to go a more traditional route, they also help with fundraisers by selling donuts to organizations at cost, who can in turn sell them for a profit, to support their cause. Give back while eating delicious donuts? Definite win-win!
So, if you’re out in our ‘hood craving a sweet treat – make sure to stop by and enjoy a donut and some sunny ambiance at Ohana Donuterie. They’d love to see you!
